제
땅굴은 귀순한 김부성씨의 땅굴 공사 첩보를 근거로 1975년부터 문산 지역에 대한 시추작업을
하였으나 땅굴 징후를 포착하지 못하다가 1978년 6월 10일 시추공 중 1개 가 폭발함으로서
역갱도 굴착 공사를 실시, 1978년 10월 17일 적 갱도에 관통하여 판 문점 남방
4km 지점에서 발견되었다.
이 땅굴은 그 위치가 서울에서 불과 44km 거리에 있었기 때문에 규모면에서는 제 2땅
굴과 비슷하나 서울로 침투하는데 있어서는 제 1.2땅굴보다 훨씬 위협적인 것으로 평 가
되었다. 임진각에서 서북쪽으로 4Km, 통일촌 민가에서 3.5Km 밖에 떨어져 있지 않아
서울에서 승용차로 45분이면 도달할수 있는 거리이다.
파주시 군내면 점원리에 위치한 제 3땅굴은 북쪽에서 남쪽으로 침투한 땅굴로 폭 2m,
높이 2m 총길이는 1,635m이며, 남방 한계선까지 거리는 435m로서 1시간당 군인이동은
완전 무장시 1만명의 병력 이동이 가능하고 비무장시에는 3만명의 병력이 이동할 수 있으며
문산까지의 거리는 12km다. 2002년에 땅굴을 쉽게 방문할 수 있도록 미니열차형의
에스칼레이터(머리조심!)가 설 치되어 편리해졌지만 수용인원에 한계가 있어 대기시간이 길어졌다.
임산부나 유.소아는 가급적 입장을 삼가는 것이 좋다. |
